Conflicts are inevitable in the workplace. That’s a fact. But how we handle our conflicts are well within our control and the success of these resolutions is dependent on our attitude towards conflicts and relationships.
Every self-improvement initiative begins with self-awareness. The workshop commences with some self-awareness activities to identify our tendencies toward a particular conflict management style. Knowledge of the 5 conflict management styles based on Thomas-Kilmann’s framework on Conflict Modes and their appropriate applications to certain scenarios will be discussed and practiced. Participants will be able to identify their strengths in handling these types of situations, as well as reflect on areas of their communication that need to be toned down or highlighted more.
From self-awareness, participants will be led into relationship-building through helpful points to handling conflicts. The group will be guided into a special activity of meaningful dialogues to exercise their empathy and sensitivity to others. The workshop will provide a safe, non-intimidating place for openness and genuine care and respect for others.
The workshop ends with individual resolutions (and group resolutions, if they apply) toward improved management of conflicts and relationships within the workplace.
Identify their individual tendencies toward a particular conflict management style depending on their (1) assertiveness, the extent to which the individual attempts to satisfy his or her own concerns, and (2) cooperativeness, the extent to which the individual attempts to satisfy other people’s concerns. The 5 conflict-handling modes are (Thomas-Kilmann):
Competing
Collaborating
Compromising
Accommodating
Avoiding
