DIGITAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT: Strategies in Writing: How to write LEAN, FAST, and VIRAL

    Why join the workshop?

It has been said that content is king, but with so many messages being communicated to us on a daily basis, many important messages naturally get drowned out. In this digital age where messages can be delivered via social media, it has become more urgent for writers to express ideas in a narrative that can hook readers with ever-shortening attention spans.

With today’s technology, everyone can write articles or publish their opinions online, but few can engage readers consistently with clarity of presentation, power of emotion, and strength of narrative, while at the same time react quickly to ongoing developments and ride the tide of popular or trending topics. The workshop will allow participants to learn how to write and publish stories for your chosen target audience, specifically optimised for online consumption, either through websites, social media feeds, newsletters, press releases, or blogs. These techniques can be applied to writing as a hobby, for social media content, marketing communications, journalism, or for events.

This workshop is the first of four related courses on how you can use digital media to great advantage. INQUIRER.net journalists led by editor in chief John Nery draw lessons — of all kinds — from the experience of the country’s leading news website. Understand the three kinds of audience; learn to write fast; create your own pocket newsroom; work with the crowd to create content; share techniques for handling trolls; produce compelling video that works on all screens; and much more. Only at the Inquirer Academy.

    Who Should Attend:

The course is appropriate for anyone with an interest in writing for online audiences, be it as a hobbyist or professional in the industry. Individuals in marketing, communications, public relations, journalistic, creative, or content management functions of a business would also benefit from learning how to tailor-fit their messages and writing styles for digital media.

    Outline:

The hands-on workshop will not just focus on the basics of how to write articles, but also delve more into the techniques to deliver relevant and compelling stories for online publication. The workshop and exercises will guide participants through the following topics:

    • Understanding Digital Media - A Working Framework
    • Meeting the 3 Audiences - Appetite, Sentiment, and Knowledge
    • Issues, Concerns, and Strategies for Digital Writing
    • Writing a memorable close
